Too Lazy to Exercise?

I think I've made my last excuse.

Maybe six or seven years ago, I watched a report on CNN about a woman who (at a certain age when most people let exercise slide for good) began jogging. On the day when this report was made she was 74. The doctors told her she had the energy, organs and health of a forty year old woman. I'm at that certain age when she began and I've been saying to myself before I pass that certain mark I am going to be exercising on a regular basis. I had a good start and then I broke my little toe. But after seeing this, I'm saying, hey, surely there's exercise you can do to meet that commitment if you want it bad enough ...

Today the news covered an extraordinary woman as she crossed the finish line of the Chicago Marathon, and promptly went into labor.
Talk about a good excuse to skip the marathon.

And the kicker, her husband couldn't keep up with her; he was actually fifteen minutes behind.

Don'tcha just love it.

Quite an inspiration and yet so many people are speaking out against what she did even though she is fit and had her doctor's support. She's run for along time and during her son's pregnancy as well.

People get a grip! You're just jealous!

Back on the treadmill again

Ever since Dusty arrived we've had one end of the kitchen walled off to protect him from himself. Unfortunately, this included the treadmill. A couple weeks ago, I unburied it and have been intending to start exercising again. I've been procrastinating.

After the hurricanes in 05 I went to D.C. and Atlanta to work fro 6 months. I'd been so faithful with my exercise regimen until I left. But it's been hit and miss ever since.

Only one excuse besides procrastination. It's HOT, as HADES. Today 105 heat index outside and probably 80 inside. But we put up some foam insulation on the ceiling of a couple rooms this morning and now the air conditioners are able to keep the house at a reasonably cool temperature - mid 70s?

So I'm gearing up. If you don't read by Thursday that I've got two days under my belt feel free to ask. Tomorrow's the day. Tomorrow's the day.

Eliminating Writer's a**

I've often wished there was a viable solution for working while treadmilling. I'd seen pictures like this on the net.

This week, Robin Kaye wrote about her experience with a new treadmill setup over at the Casablanca Authors blog.

She must have a pretty handy hubby. If CFM and I attempted to recreate this, not only would the desk and treadmill be unusable but we would be divorced. We nearly got one over a simple doghouse.

I'm anxious to see how it works for her. I can see the benefits in fitness and creativity. Surely there are a few hundred writers who would spring for one, enough to make the manufacture of it worthwhile.

Wanna get in shape?

Set up a profile on FitLink.com and go to the Exerwriters group to join our group Exerwriters. I will send you an invitation and you'll be ready. You can choose your daily activities and log your progress on your blog like mine on the right. Not as simple as what I was looking for but I need something to stay accountable and create a regular habit.

BTW that is 22 minutes NOT 22 hours, lol, and actually, I haven't gotten on the treadmill yet today, but I promise I will or I'll take that progress down. I also plan to add about 15 min of dance and some simple exercise for flexibility and strength to my workout. They may not happen every day.

What do you think? Do you know of a simple way to track exercise progress on your blog? I need to get this in place because other than delivering hundreds of pounds of mail the last several days, I haven't done anything so far this year to get in shape. Once I get on a treadmill habit, I start listening to music and my creative juices get flowing and I get fit as a wonderful side bene.

Join me and Leah in making this THE year we get healthier.
