Storm Crazy, Livia Quinn

Action & AdventureLiterature & FictionRomanceSupernatural & Paranormal

Destiny– is it Mayberry or Middle Earth? Welcome to Destiny, home to the Paramortals since…well, forever…where human neighbors and their new sheriff live alongside shifters, dragons, vampires and a family of djinn. Just don’t tell the humans. The Destiny Paramortals series is like a mini vacation away from the real world…
I’m Sheriff Jack Lang. After an exciting career as a Navy pilot, Destiny seemed like the perfect place to settle down – safe, sane and secure. But that ship sailed when I met Tempest Pomeroy my sexy redheaded mail lady and trouble magnet. Tempe never fails to test the limits of my patience or the law. Every time I think it’sthelast straw, up pops another haystack.

My name is Tempest Pomeroy, and my human job is delivering the mail. I’m also a Paramortal like my family, or I’m supposed to be. If I didn’t have a few little talents, I’d think I was adopted. To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on New Orleans. My brother’s genie bottle is missing, my mother’s AWOL, and the sheriff and my ex-lover are squaring off like yard dogs staking a claim over a poodle. I am no one’s poodle. I’ve denied my heritage for most of my life but all this chaos is a sign of my quickening Tempestaerie power.
Oh, and the sheriff? He thinks he’s settled in a normal, quaint small town—like Mayberry?! Ha. We’ll see how that turns out. Things better settle down soon, ‘cause I’m about to go Storm Crazy.
Storm Crazy is a dramatic, thrilling and exciting novel that will keep readers entertained, captivated and engrossed from the very first page. Supernatural stories are currently my go-to read so when I read the description of Storm Crazy I knew that I had to read it as well as review it so that all you lovely readers could read about it. Never before have I been so captivated by a supernatural story and this is thanks to the exceptional author Livia Quinn and her talented literature and so, if you are a reader who loves books such as The City of Bones then you will adore this supernatural mystery as it is stellar!
Storm Crazy is a unique book with many plot avenues however the focus of the story is Tempest Pomeroy, Sheriff Jack Lang and a place called Destiny. Destiny is a unique place and home to Paramortals where beings such as vampires, shapeshifters, and even dragons live. The reader throughout Storm Crazy will be introduced to many characters and one of them is Sheriff Jack Lang who has decided to settle down in Destiny, after all, it seems like a quaint place with no drama but how wrong is he! It is here that the story picks up and here that the reader will be introduced to the female protagonist of the novel, Tempest Pomeroy, a red-haired woman who has Jack’s affection. Tempest, however, is hiding a secret, she is a Paramortal just like the rest of her family and throughout the book the reader will follow her as much is unveiled and what is unveiled is shocking as well as thrilling so do not miss out book lovers on book one in the Destiny Paramortal series, you do not want to miss out!
The story of Storm Crazy is excellent and incredibly well-developed thanks to Livia Quinn, the author of the book. Quinn manages to develop her world with immaculate detail; every event, character, and setting is well thought out and planned, and I was impressed by Quinn’s flawless ability to do this. As I read Storm Crazy, I immediately was drawn into the book and felt captivated by Quinn’s spellbinding literature. Quinn’s literature is detailed in the most immaculate of ways; the text is detailed but not too dense, it is beautifully written so that the reader will be able to immerse themselves in the story from beginning to end without difficulty.
Not only is Livia Quinn a talented author for her descriptive powers, but she is also a phenomenal writer thanks to her characterization of the protagonist of the novel Tempest. Tempest is a character every reader will be able to root for, and many readers will end up caring about her and the journey she goes on. Quinn has essentially written a character study of Tempest and I adore this approach in literature because it makes the story even more immersive and entertaining for a reader. Being able to accompany Tempest on her journey was incredible, it was remarkable to witness her changing and growing as a Paramortal and even more brilliant to observe how she finds her way in a supernatural world. Because Quinn captivates her readers from the start, the reader will feel as if they are in the same situation as Tempest; they too will be finding their way through the tumultuous landscape and feel the same emotions of fear, excitement, and power just as Tempest does. Storm Crazy is a truly immersive experience and so if you adore reading novels that you can be apart of then this story is for you!
As Storm Crazy is a sensational, compelling and action-packed supernatural adventure that will entertain and delight readers for hours on end, I, of course, have to review this incredible book five stars! So please if you love supernatural stories that follow a strong protagonist while being taken on a memorable journey, then Storm Crazy is for you! #Journaling to beat tasks, #procrastination and #depression

They're known by many terms.

Art Journals - Travelers Notebook - Bullet Journals - Dot Journal...

A memory comes to me occasionally of my mother saying she found it curious that I always had a pen in my hand as if it was waiting for something to write… she never knew I became an author but I’ve journaled for many years. It did seem as if words just needed to flow from my fingers...
Last week I retired the planner I’ve used for the last six months and did an assessment of my new process as a management tool. I was actually amazed by how much I’d accomplished this year so far and I credit this particular notebook method.
Years ago, I used to carry a Day Runner Purse keeping everything in it with me - addresses, plans, to dos, finances, ideas - I called it my “bible to myself” so when I discovered bullet journals/travel notebooks and art journaling, I jumped into it whole hog.
After researching sizes, I decided on the most flexible one for me that will accommodate most 5x8” notebooks. I ordered a pretty forest green leather notebook cover (the basis for a travel notebook) from Galenleather.com. A bullet journal on the other hand can be created in any notebook that lies flat like some of the ones I show further down.
In my first attempt, I set up a travel notebook style planner with individual notebooks I made myself for various tasks, a separate one for finances, calendar, book notes, etc. The individual items are banded into the cover and can be removed for entry if needed or reordered. But after two months I ditched the many separate notebooks and went with a Popper and dollar store monthly calendar and this round, a bound daily journal.
I’ve included some images of some of my messy pages, some of my notebooks, supplies and calendar styles. One of my favorite calendars is the one with the circle calendar in the center and boxes for each month around it which allows me to put main focus in the center and more detail in the boxes. The detail book tasks page has been very helpful lately.
And I love my quote page which holds some of the quotes that inspire me. (Here’s one of my favorites, a quote my grandson shared with me when he was in the Navy.)

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”  Mark Twain

Don’t worry if you don’t want to decorate it, though there’s some real benefits to the creative energy that comes from it, or that your penmanship is well…ugly. That is not the point.
The core strength of these bullet journals/traveler’s notebooks/art journals/daily planners – whatever you choose to call them – is the intention that’s brought to the effort, the concentration on tasks, to dos, ideas, the tracking of daily life, goals set and met.
You identify a task or reminder, write down your intention to commit, to attend, achieve or remember, add goals or a date for that task – examples: pay off credit card by___, meals planned for one week, edits done for four books by June 30 at 8000 words per day, etc.
In Smart Journaling by Mackenzie Read, this expert says, “Distraction takes a heavy toll on productivity… Smart journaling gives the mind room to think.”
I was excited when I started this so I bought supplies – washi tape, rubber stamps, stencils, fancy card stock to make my own notebooks, a um, paper cutter, yeah… well, you don’t have to do that either. You can start with any style notebook that will open flat. I’ve shown a couple below. As you can see I could use just about any notebooks of that size as they fit into my cover. The important thing is to find one that opens flat to be the most useful and available (Something you like that’s practical so you will use it is essential).
Why it works! When I started the big revamp of my contemporary series in February I set goals in my planner each day. I had to have 2 books written and 5 books revised and edited by June 30. So, each day I place that item on the top of my planner page, total to be revised, number of pages to be edited for each day and a report of how many I’d accomplished. Now I have a new total to be transferred to the next day. I’ve included samples of my messy pages. The point is messy or not, this system works, because it’s customizable, personal, tuned to your personal needs to accommodate school, work, finances, writing, kids’ activities, whatever. You build it so you can follow it and as you can see I’ve tried many different styles of weekly, daily and monthly pages. It doesn’t cost me anything to try something new because I create it myself. This can all be accomplished with just a decent black pen like a sharpie fine line that doesn’t go through paper and a notebook.
This year, not only did I run my business during the day but in the mornings and between customers this system helped me to stay focused on my goals – personal, financial and writerly. I’ve used several different weekly and daily methods…
I finished rough drafts of two books, edited and completely revised 5 books, took three courses, learned how to create covers. If I stay on track I will have released 8 books by the end of the year and written three more. Because I’m focusing on it step by step, day by day, I don’t feel overwhelmed. Incorporating a spiritual meditation of some kind into each day helps tremendously. I leave a space using a little cloud with dots to jot down the most important thing I glean from these moments. It’s very calming and affirming.
My contemporary series will begin launching in September so I created a launch plan with tasks to be done each month for each book, release dates, promos, kind of a birds eye view.
Have you tried creating your own planner? I’d love to hear about it. If I’ve made you curious you can find dozens of books on the subject but here’s a rather inexpensive eBook I’ve found particularly helpful. Dot Journaling by Rachel Wilkerson Miller

Don't wait!! Last day for Destiny #series #sale on Amazon #excerpt

Yep, today is the last day on Kindle Countdown though the books will be free on Kindle Unlimited through June. Check the series out here.

See excerpt below:

Readers say...

This author hasn’t failed me yet! Another home run!
I am not really an advocate of book that continues into the next installment but I am making an exception for this series.
This part continues the story of Tempe and her search for her brother with the new sheriff and other exciting/odd characters of Destiny. More characters add to the mix and they encounter some answers to questions and some new developments.
The book is non-stop and keeps you moving, I didn’t want to put it down.

I don’t really like books that continue into the next installment but I am making an exception for this series.

This was a great book! I didn’t want it to end. Once you enter the world of Destiny, with all its interesting Paramortal characters, you will never want to leave. I loved the main character, Tempest Pomeroy, who is a tempestaerie, a storm witch, trying to find out about her family as she solves the disappearance of her brother with the help of new sheriff in town Jack (laser) Lang. The author does a terrific job of capturing the southern Louisiana coulture. This book delivers the perfect combination of suspense and fantasy with romance. Can’t wait for the next one!

Book two picks up from the moment book one ends and I liked that. It’s a continuation of the same story. River is still missing and time is running out. Sheriff Jack just found out who Tempest (and many of her friends/family) is. Whoa, paramortals! Though to be fair, Jack doesn’t have much time to adjust to this news.

“You in or out?” asks Dylan (who changed into a big bear-like creature before Jack’s eyes).

Jack’s in and the more he finds out, the more he falls in love with Tempest. He wants to protect her and help her find River before it’s too late.

This is one roller coaster ride of a book! The author does a fantastic job weaving romance and action; I couldn’t read fast enough. I loved the characters and the plot was riveting. One bombshell after another hits Tempest and Jack but instead of driving them apart, it draws them closer together.

What will happen? There’s a new character that appears at the very end and I can’t tell you more other to say my mouth dropped at her showing up.
I read this book in one sitting and started reading book three right away. You must read the books in order.

Gripping action, complex characters and a plot that wouldn’t let me go, Cry Me a River is a must-read! Onto book three…

Favorite Character:
Jack. I loved how he didn’t abandon Tempest in her moment of crisis. I mean, I wouldn’t have blamed him if he did. What man would stick around after a woman threw bolts of lightning very near his crotch. *giggles* Jack is an honorable man and even though he’s in over his head, he’s falling in love with Tempest. She’s his storm witch and when the two of them get together, it blasts them both into outer space.

Favorite Quote:
“Sweetheart, are you okay?” Call me crazy, but it seemed I could feel her body vibrating from three feet away. ~ Jack

My Rating: 5+ stars

Need a vacation from the real world, yet stay here on earth? Read this series. You will find suspense, romance and humor while setting on the edge of you seat wondering what's going to happen next. I highly recommend these books. I don't normally read books that are based on fantasy but love Livia Quinn's books so gave this one a try. So glad I did! I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a hot guy with a heart of gold. It has a cast of characters who will keep you entertained and also keeps you guess as to what has happened to the missing River. On to the next book in this series I go.

I love books with quirky characters and this one's stuffed full with them. I wish my town was a little more like Destiny, Louisiana. When a book has me sitting in a Dr' s waiting room laughing to my self, panting as I fan my face, then biting my nails in suspense it covers all my list of requirements for a great book. Usually I m not a great fan of cliffhangers, but this author writes meaty books, this one was over 300 pages, and the second book in this series was published quickly after so I'm not afraid of a long wait for other books.

ok, I am hooked! I am so ready to know the rest of the story from this series. There is so much hope and underlying romantic tension. Give me, give me, give me some more!!!

Excerpt from Storm Crazy.

Tempe
I sensed Dylan’s potent aura before I heard the heels of his boots thunk against the hardwood floor, then his shadow fell across me. With a slight tilt of my head I saw black hair wet with rain combed away from his beautifully dangerous face, his lips a mere breath from mine, so close I could see each stubbled hair on his cheek; the eyes I knew to be a rich forest green, were obsidian, wild.
Blast those pesky pheromones! My body was begging me to jump him, the memories of our limbs entwined in a hot morning caress making it nearly impossible to maintain a facade of irritation. And he knew it.
“Dylan.” I pushed the glass away.
His lips crooked up at the corner and he relaxed, flopping onto the nearest barstool. He looked me over, refrained from commenting on my messy appearance. “You look stressed. I was going to buy you a drink, but it looks like you’ve had one.” His brow arched at the sight of the shot glass.
I returned his perusal, raking over the black duster where moisture steamed off that big hard body. The only obvious break in color was the shiny gold badge on the black id wallet visible between the leather lapels. He was dark and dangerous, and once again I felt the sensual pull. I rubbed my forehead, willing those thoughts away.
“What did you want to talk to me about, Persephone?”
“That’s it! Just once, could you call me by my friggin’ name?” I pushed off the stool and turned on him, fisting clumps of my hair.
He sat back, looked at me closely. “Talk to me. What’s going on,” he said.
“I need a favor, Inspector.”
He slid off his stool, motioning the bartender away with a look. “I think you’ve had enough.”
I turned on him, “Who died and made you the keeper of me?” And then I remembered what I’d learned, and a sob escaped my throat. I turned away. Get a grip. I signaled the bartender to bring me a tonic water, and felt Dylan’s hand squeeze my shoulder gently. I didn’t mean to let him, but it felt so…comforting.
“Bad day?” His voice was a calming purr. “Bad week,” he corrected. He could be so sweet. I hated that I remembered that about him, too. “I’m sorry I was late. I’ve been on a job in Baton Rouge.”  He stroked a length of my hair behind my ear.
I could have easily allowed him to shoulder my troubles. Fix everything. No, that was tequila thinking. I didn’t need the betraying bastard to fix anything for me. “I’ve changed my mind. I don’t need you.”
I think he winced, but my vision was suspect.
“Come on, you need to call it a day.” He got up towering over me.
I slid off the stool, swaying just a smidgen. I was sure he didn’t notice, but then his hand settled on my hip steering me between the other stools and patrons into the fresh rain-washed night. I tripped on the uneven walkway of the porch and felt his hand on my elbow.
He said, “Tempe,” and turned me toward him. “Damn,” he muttered, looking off.
“Ah, so you do know my name,” I said.
“Look, I need to talk to you. Privately.”
I guess the dark night with only a few people coming and going from the parking lot wasn’t private enough. He led me around the side of the building. The comforting song of the rain frogs started up again as I propped myself against the outside wall. He placed both hands on either side of my head.
“This may not be the best time, but I need to say this.” His flippant manner was gone, replaced by frank sincerity. Whether he was deciding to continue or just weighing his words, I waited. He sounded different, almost humble. Huh.
“When I was on that job in Baton Rouge, I realized that I couldn’t let something happen before I got the chance to tell you…” he let out a deep breath. “…about what happened two years ago, I didn’t mean to hurt you. There were—are reasons why…”
I guess what he saw on my face he took for forgiveness, instead of shock. “Oh, hell.” His lips touched mine in a kiss reminiscent of those nights by the fire, touches drenched in desire, his body like hot steel…I groaned.
There was comfort in his kiss, and in the long overdue apology. The last few days had been a nightmare, with memories and revelations coming at me faster than I could assimilate them. Then my conversation with Aurora resurfaced. I flattened my hands on his chest. “Dylan, no.”
I heard boots hit the porch and pushed harder.

“Well, damn. Looks like I’ve come at a bad time.”

NEWS! All Destiny Paramortals will return to Nook iTunes and Kobo July 2nd. Watch for it on your favorite retailer.
