2012 American Idol week 1

So it's begun. I worked with a someone years ago who just LOVED American Idol. I just couldn't see the love there for a while. But I'm on it now! I just have to watch the progress of these young artists as they reach for their goals.

My thoughts this week.

My favorites in the guys are Joshua, (from Westlake, Louisiana yes!!) Philip, Germaine (the gentle & awesome giant), and Reed.

In the girls - Hallie (from Baltimore, Md) Okay so shoot me, I'm biased for the home team. Erika, Hollie (wow), Shannon, Jessica (Dbl wow) and Elisa.

Of course it doesn't matter what I think because I'm not going to stay online for two hours Idol night punching the phone. I'll give my best shot to my favorites and then it's up to the universe (usually that means whoever has the biggest teen fan base.)

Addendum: Well, all in all I think the voters did exceptionally well.

Idol Fans Not Judging Talent

Once again, American Idol results prove the public picks a winner based on something besides talent. Last year, the obvious stars, Adam Lambert and Allison Ihrheta, came in second to Kris Allen, who seemed to say 'What the Hell were they thinking?' as he received the news. Yes, indeed. And this year I saw the same stunned look on Lee's face as the winner was announced. Surely, Crystal was the most polished and had the most potential to hit the ground running, seeming to be Alannis Morrisette's equal in their performance last night.

What WERE they thinking? Where did these votes come from? To vote off Michael and Casey who were clearly the better musicians...well, it makes me want to watch Dancing with the Stars next year. But it was worth it to see these talented new stars begin their careers.

My favorite performance - Michael and Casey singing, "Have you Really Ever Loved a Woman." Sigh.

Of course, you know you can download your favorite performances from Itunes.

My favorite Idol

Okay, this year they are all really good. But I'm intrigued by Adam who is much smarter than your average rock star. He's planned his career and designed his entrance into Idol after grooming himself for it with many years of theatre and stage performances. The uniqueness of the contestants this year - Allison, Danny, Kris, and Adam - make this an especially interesting time to watch Idol. They all seem to have stage presence and a clear vision of who they are. I'd watch it just for the performances. But since Adam is my favorite, I'll share some of his videos.

The Tracks of My Tears.

I Can't Get No Satisfaction.

Some Kind of Wonderful - Adam's group song in the early weeks.

Well, shoot, if you haven't seen this 16yr old rocker, Allison, you should at least watch one video of her.

And the studio version.
